Best Neighborhoods in South Austin to Buy a Home
If you've followed me for any amount of time, you already know I'm biased when it comes to South Austin. I live here, I've owned homes here, and I've spent a good portion of my real estate career helping people buy and sell in these neighborhoods. The thing I love about Southwest Austin is that you can find some pretty dramatically different homes, neighborhoods and lifestyles within just a few miles of each other. Whether you're looking for a larger house, beautiful trees, proximity to downtown or simply the best bang for your buck, there's probably a neighborhood that makes sense for you. Here's how I would break down a few of my favorites.
Maple Run: The Hidden First-Time Buyer Gem of Southwest Austin
I bought my first house in Maple Run in 2013. At the time, homes were hovering right around $200,000.
Two hundred thousand dollars.
I know. That sentence feels illegal now.
Back then, Maple Run was exactly what it was designed to be: affordable. Most of the homes were built in the 80s, many as entry-level builds. The construction wasn’t fancy. The layouts were simple. Some of them had design choices that only make sense if you remember that Miami Vice was still on TV.
